This blended program ensures that participants are well-prepared to coach youth athletes, whether in a club, school, or Little Athletics Centre setting. This program combines the Introduction to Teaching Little Athletics Skills (ITLAS) and the Level 1 Youth Coach Accreditation. Participants will progress through a blend of self-paced online learning and practical assessments, gaining skills and credentials in coaching youth athletes.
Upon completion, participants will earn 15 CPD points and a Level 1 Youth Coach Accreditation from Athletics Australia, along with one year of national membership.
Course Structure
Part 1: Introduction to Teaching Little Athletics Skills (ITLAS)
This initial phase focuses on introducing basic athletic skills to children and is ideal for parents, volunteers, and teachers.:
- Register through your local Little Athletics Association.
- Attend the ITLAS Practical Session:
- Attend the session and complete all requirements led by your course coordinator.
- Learn skills, drills, and activities relevant to primary school age children.
Part 2: Level 1 Youth Coach Accreditation
Building on the ITLAS course, this segment prepares participants for formal youth coaching accreditation.
Step 1: Self-Paced Online Modules
Complete the following modules at your own pace:
- Community Coaching Essential Skills course.
- Complete the Level 1 Youth Coach online modules.
Step 2: Assessment Tasks
Complete the final assessment tasks:
- Submit an online assessment task (planning assignment).
- Practical Coaching Experience: Athletics Australia recommends completing 30 hours of practical coaching in a club, school, professional, or private setting before receiving full accreditation.
Accreditation & Beyond:
After successfully completing all components of the ITLAS to Level 1 Youth Coach programs:
- Your Level 1 Youth Coach accreditation will be added to your Athletics Australia account.
- You'll receive one year of national membership.
- Graduates may pursue further accreditation and professional development opportunities in coaching.
